Entry Level Careers

Entry level careers are really first jobs which are an important step on the ladder for new graduates. Whilst an entry level position may not be exactly what you are looking for, it is important to recognize that if you don’t have a great deal of work experience, you will have to start at the bottom.

However, an entry level job will give you an excellent grounding and enable you to build your skills and experience so that you can move quickly towards your goal.

How do you go about finding the right entry level job? You should begin by defining your ultimate goal. This should be as precise as possible, for example, if you want to be a successful lawyer, you should decide which field of law you want to specialize in and what exactly success means for you.

Having decided where you are heading, you need to find the best path to get you there. One way of doing this is to work backwards from your goal, asking yourself what needs to happen to enable you to take each step. Once you are aware of the necessary steps, you should research the companies which will facilitate them. It may be that you can take the first few steps in one organization and then move to another to climb the remaining rungs of the ladder.

You will need to be flexible and at times creative. This is more than one route to your ideal job and so you should be aware of the alternatives. There is no guarantee that you will get the ideal entry level job and so you should have a backup plan.

Once you have identified several paths to your ideal job, you can target your applications to relevant companies. You should learn as much as you can about their graduate programmes and promotion structures and having made the decision to apply, find out as much as you can about their products and services. When writing your CV or application, you should take great care to tailor it to the needs of the company.

A little thought and some basic planning will increase your chances of getting the entry level career you want.
